Auditions for the 2012-2013 Season

Stanford Symphony Orchestra Auditions

Auditions for the Stanford Symphony Orchestra and the Stanford Philharmonia Orchestra are open to all members of the Stanford community. Although students are given priority, we also welcome musicians from the local and non-Stanford community.

Auditions for the 2012-2013 season will be held on the following dates:

Sunday, September 23 from 10 am to 9 pm for new members.

Monday, September 24 from 2 pm to 10 pm and on Tuesday, September 25 from 6 pm to 10 pm for returning members.

If you would like to audition but cannot make any of the available times, contact Linh Tran (lttran@stanford.edu) to make alternative arrangements.

All auditions take place in the Braun Music Center, Room 121. To sign up for an audition time, CLICK HERE.

The audition material is posted below. Each audition will be 10 minutes long and will consist of two parts:

  • A solo work of your choice. This could be a part of a concerto, sonata, or a solo passage from a major orchestral work.
  • Orchestral excerpts. We have listed audition repertoire for each instrument. You can download and print them out using the links shown below. If you have difficulty getting music, email lttran@stanford.edu or call 650-725-2694.

As part of the process in preparing for the audition, it is important that you listen to the professional recording of the excerpts.
